Why Choose SpaVie?

  • SpaVie is a leading destination in the Twin Cities for non-surgical beauty treatments for both men and women.
  • Headed by one of the top female plastic surgeons in the nation, Dr. Jennifer Harrington, we are proud to offer only tried and true procedures with real results.

Best Candidates for miraDry Sweat Reduction

miraDry candidates should be in good health with realistic expectations for their results. Most people who get miraDry sweat reduction treatments suffer from excessive perspiration, a condition known as hyperhidrosis, causing them embarrassing or inconvenient situations. You might also be worried about body odor, affecting your self-confidence.

Depending on your unique needs, Dr. Harrington might have additional or alternate treatments to recommend for you.

What to Expect

Before treating your underarms with miraDry, your practitioner will mark and then numb your underarms to keep you comfortable during the procedure. Once the area is sufficiently numb, the miraDry handpiece will be placed directly on your skin and activated. Your skin will be gently suctioned to the device to bring your sweat glands closer as the miraDry device applies controlled energy to the underlying area. This energy targets and destroys sweat glands in the underarm.

Recovery & Results

Once the numbness wears off, you may experience some minor tingling and temporary swelling. These side effects should fade within a few hours to a few days. You can apply cool compresses to the area to help speed up the recovery process and minimize any discomfort.

Your results should gradually develop over the following weeks and months. You should notice a significant decrease in sweating from your underarms, as well as underarm odor.

miraDry FAQs

Q. How long does the miraDry treatment take?
The entire miraDry treatment takes about 1 hour.
Q. Is the miraDry treatment painful?
The miraDry device heats the underlying sweat and odor glands of the underarm while simultaneously cooling the surface of the skin to maximize comfort during the procedure. The topical numbing cream also increases your comfort, so most people don’t find the treatment painful at all.
Q. Don’t we need to sweat to maintain a healthy body temperature?
Yes, but contrary to what many people think, only 2 percent of our bodies’ total sweat glands are located in the underarms. This means that even if you disabled all the sweat glands in your underarms, your body’s overall capacity for healthy perspiration would not be significantly affected.
Q. How many miraDry sessions will I need?
The best number of treatments depends on your specific needs. People with genuine hyperhidrosis, which is a medical condition causing excessive sweat, may need 2 or even 3 treatments to achieve their ideal results. However, those simply interested in sweating less are often satisfied with their results after a single treatment.
Q. Will miraDry treatments affect the appearance of my underarms?
No, miraDry treatments should not make your underarms look any different or affect hair growth. Some people develop minor bumpiness or redness during the first week of their recovery, but these effects should fade. If you’re interested in getting rid of underarm hair, you might want to consider laser hair removal.
