BOTOX®, Dysport® & Daxxify®

As we age, repeated facial movements can cause wrinkles to become etched into our skin, particularly beside the eyes (crow’s feet) and between the brows (frown lines). By temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause these wrinkles with BOTOX®, Dysport®, or Daxxify® you can achieve a smoother, more wrinkle-free complexion once again. Collectively, these injectables are known as neuromodulators or neurotoxins, and have been unbelievably effective at facial wrinkle reduction.

Best Candidates for BOTOX, Dysport, & Daxxify

Candidates for these neuromodulator injections should be in good overall health with realistic expectations for their results. Most people who get either product are interested in getting rid of horizontal lines beside the outer eyes or vertical lines between the brows, which may make them appear constantly tired or agitated. However, BOTOX, Dysport, and Daxxify can also be used to treat horizontal forehead lines and certain other types of dynamic wrinkling on the lower face.

Depending on your needs and goals, Dr. Harrington may recommend additional or alternate procedures. For instance, microneedling can help plump up and rejuvenate the skin, minimizing minor facial lines. A laser peel can also help treat minor wrinkles while refreshing skin tone.

What to Expect

Injectable products like BOTOX, Dysport, and Daxxify can be quickly applied in what’s known as a “lunchtime rejuvenation treatment,” allowing you to walk in and walk out without cutting into your schedule too much. Before your injections, your aesthetic professional will carefully examine your skin and determine the specific areas to inject. The injections themselves will be quick and generally don’t require any anesthetic. Most appointments only take a total of around 20 minutes.

Recovery & Results

You may develop some minor temporary redness or bruising at the injection sites, but this should fade within the first week. You should protect your skin from the sun after treatments, but BOTOX, Dysport, and Daxxify generally don’t require any downtime or special care.

Your results should develop over the following 3 to 7 days. Once your results set in, you should notice a smoother, more relaxed appearance, but you shouldn’t appear “frozen” or overly done. Your results will fade after about 3 to 4 months, so most people schedule touch-up treatments about 4 times per year.

BOTOX, Dysport, & Daxxify FAQs

Q. What’s the difference between BOTOX and Dysport?
Both products are comprised of botulinum toxin, which functions as a muscle relaxant, and they are nearly identical. The molecules in Dysport are slightly smaller than those in BOTOX, allowing Dysport to spread slightly more than its counterpart. Depending on the treatment area, this can be an advantage or a drawback. Dysport also usually has a slightly quicker onset, although Dysport results may not last as long as BOTOX. Your practitioner can help you decide on the best product for your needs.
Q. What’s the difference between BOTOX and Daxxify?
Daxxify can produce longer-lasting wrinkle reduction given its unique formula that includes peptides to help stabilize its active ingredient. While BOTOX results typically last about 3 to 4 months, approximately 80% of Daxxify patients in clinical trials still had no or minimally visible facial wrinkles at the 4 month mark. In fact, almost half of trial participants had little evidence of wrinkles even after 6 months.
Q. Can neurotoxins treat wrinkles in the lower face?
Generally, no. Most low-face wrinkles are caused by sagging skin or tissue, causing creases to gradually appear. This is fundamentally different from dynamic wrinkles, which are caused by muscle movements. Dermal fillers can restore lost volume in the face to smooth out creases in the lower face and more. Since these products are also injectable, they are frequently combined with BOTOX, Dysport or Daxxify in a single appointment.
Q. Will I still look normal when I smile?
Yes. Our providers are trained to create natural-looking results, so you should never appear frozen, constantly surprised or otherwise unnatural.*
Q. Can I get other facial treatments after getting a neuromodulator?
You should avoid pressing or massaging your face for at least a few days after getting any injectable product, since there is a chance that you will inadvertently move the product around and affect your results. However, once your results have fully developed, you can enjoy additional facial treatments. Ask your practitioner for some recommendations.
Q. Can BOTOX prevent wrinkles from forming in the future?
To an extent, yes. Today, it’s increasingly popular for people to start BOTOX, Dysport or Daxxify treatments as young as their 20s to prevent the onset of dynamic wrinkles. Of course, nothing can fully prevent the aging process, but you can minimize its visible impacts as best you can.
