Best Candidates for Laser Skin Resurfacing

Candidates for laser resurfacing with Sciton’s Halo laser should be in good overall physical and mental health, and interested in improving the look and texture of their skin. Most commonly, candidates are men or women with acne scars, fine lines, sun spots or enlarged pores. Laser resurfacing is normally used for facial rejuvenation, but you may also wish to resurface skin on your neck, décolletage or backs of the hands.

To further address facial blemishes or uneven skin tone, Dr. Harrington may recommend additional treatments, such as PRP facial rejuvenation or Sciton BBL™ Skin Rejuvenation. Ask a member of our staff if you’re interested in learning about any particular treatment.

Real Patient Results

What to Expect

Halo laser skin resurfacing uses a hybrid fractional laser with a combination of wavelengths to address imperfections at various depths in the skin. During your treatment, the Halo handpiece will be rolled over your skin as one laser gently heats the surface layer of skin and another penetrates into deeper layers of the dermis.

This process stimulates your skin’s natural healing processes, creating an upsurge of collagen production and cell turnover.

Recovery & Results

Your skin will appear red and puffy for the first 24 hours following your treatment, so it’s best to schedule your treatment on a day when you can return home to rest immediately after. Your skin should begin to peel around 3 to 4 days after your treatment. Once the peeling is finished, you’ll be able to see a clearer, younger looking complexion underneath. Sciton Halo is meant for total skin rejuvenation. By week 2 or 3 you will see a significant removal of dark spots, areas of uneven pigmentation, and tone and texture will improve. You’ll also notice a reduction in fine lines, reduced pore size, and a remarkable improvement in your skin’s overall vibrancy.

Individual results vary, but most people see continued improvements in their skin over the following weeks and even months. Most people see the best results after a series of anywhere from 1 to 2 laser resurfacing treatments.

Sciton Halo Laser Skin Resurfacing FAQs

Q. Can laser resurfacing help prevent wrinkles?
Yes. Rejuvenating your skin from the inside out stimulates collagen production along with other important proteins. While nothing can fully prevent the aging process, skin resurfacing can help keep your complexion smooth, supple and resilient for as long as possible.
Q. Is the procedure painful?
Before your laser treatment, a topical anesthetic will be applied to your face to numb the area. Sciton’s Halo device also comes with specialized cooling technology, minimizing any discomfort.* You will most likely feel a warming sensation during treatment, which may continue for around 30 minutes after your treatment is finished.
Q. How soon can I wear makeup after laser resurfacing?
If you wish, you can apply makeup after the first 24 hours. Makeup can help mask some of the peeling that typically starts around day 3 or 4.
Q. What can I do to speed up the healing process
In addition to staying out of the sun and following all of Dr. Harrington’s post-treatment instructions, you can use ALASTIN skincare products designed to help restore and repair the skin following a facial treatment. Ask your provider for more information.
Q. How long do the results last?
Laser resurfacing is a complete skin rejuvenation procedure and your results should be long-lasting. However, you should continue to care for your skin by protecting your face from direct sun exposure and using high quality at-home products. You may also wish to get the occasional touch-up treatment.
