What to Expect

During your Sciton BBL rejuvenation, you will be asked to wear a pair of protective glasses while your provider passes a handpiece over your skin. The Sciton handpiece allows your provider to treat facial blemishes, redness, veins, sun spots and more with precision by targeting individual areas with appropriate wavelengths and adapters. The energy from the pulsed light emitted by the Sciton device is absorbed into pigmented areas of the skin, causing them to gradually lose their pigment and fade away.

In most cases, you’ll be able to apply makeup and return to your normal routine, including work or social gatherings, right after your session. Your skin may appear slightly red or puffy for a couple of days, but in general, Sciton BBL rejuvenation treatments require little to no downtime, making this a highly convenient—as well as effective—procedure.

Over the following several days and weeks, you should notice your skin developing a more even tone. Freckles and sun spots should gradually fade away, along with visible facial veins. Rosacea, scars and facial redness can also show noticeable improvements. Most people get anywhere from 2 to 5 treatments spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart.

Q. Does getting BBL treatments hurt?

While the handpiece is passing over your skin and emitting intense pulsed light, you can expect to feel a sensation that many people liken to the snapping of a rubber band. The Sciton BBL device also comes equipped with thermoelectric cooling to maximize your comfort during treatment. The procedure may feel mildly uncomfortable, but most men and women don’t find it painful.

Q. Can I have BBL rejuvenation in places other than my face?

Yes. BBL is most commonly applied to the face and neck, but other common treatment areas include the décolletage, shoulders and backs of the hands. Because of the nature of the treatment, Sciton BBL rejuvenation can be performed almost anywhere on the body, so ask your aesthetic professional if you have a different area you’d like to have treated.

Q. How do I know how many treatments are best?

The number of recommended treatments for you depends on the extent of sun damage or pigmented lesions and your desired results. While most people get a minimum of 2 treatments, you can always start out with a short series and add more as you desire. Your provider can help you decide on the best treatment plan for your needs.

Q. How long does a treatment take?

One of the advantages to Sciton BBL treatments is that they are typically very quick to perform, easily fitting into your busy schedule. Depending on your treatment area and your specific treatment, you may be out of our office and on your way in as little as 20 minutes. Longer treatments may last 30 minutes or more.

Q. How long do the results last?

Most Sciton BBL rejuvenation treatments are designed to reverse or heal the damaging effects of sun exposure along with certain skin conditions. However, you will need to maintain your results by taking excellent care of your skin and perhaps most importantly, staying out of direct sun exposure. Your results should be long-lasting and each subsequent treatment will build upon the last, but you may wish to schedule routine touch-up treatments to keep your look fresh.
